Great version of the game! It plays well. My only complaint are the controls. The player 1 fire button is too close to the direction keys, and the player 2 buttons are hard to use. You need two hands and its hard to hit fire. It would be great to use the number pad for player 2, for example 8456 and = for fire. Thanks for the feedback! I absolutely agree with your points about the controls. Unfortunately, I had to make some compromises to allow for two-player mode, choosing keys that wouldn't conflict with each other on the keyboard matrix.
Additionally, supporting the Stupid Pet Tricks joystick module would indeed enhance the gameplay experience. I'm working on a totally new procect now but I'll look into it.
